We Had Hot Fun In The Summertime!

Over the past year, Stickney Township’s Youth Commission hosted a number of educational and entertaining activities for children of all ages and this coming year we look forward to more—all under the supervision of our talented and dedicated staff.

The academic year showed an increase in enrollment for Pre-K-3 (a preschool program for 3 year-olds) and Kiddie Play Tyme (a program for 4 year-olds), while after school activities continued to please with games, crafts, cooking, storytelling and more.

Last summer kids and parents enjoyed Fun in the Sun, where an average of 25 children and their parents spent an afternoon each week at the Burbank Water Park soaking up warm weather and cool water. Age-appropriate activities for 3 to 11 year olds enabled children to explore their own individual creativity, and Family Swim Nights provided Township families a chance to hold their own “private party” with food and beverages provided by Supervisor Louis Viverito.

Openings Currently Available in Township Daycare

The Stickney Township Child Development Center currently has openings for children 30 months through 5 years of age in its subsidized day care program.  The subsidy is provided by the Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS) for low income families in need of child care services.

To qualify for the program parent(s) must be employed full-time (25 hours a week or more) and fall within the income and eligibility guidelines established by IDHS.  Weekly tuition is then assessed on a sliding scale based on gross income and family size.  (For example, a family of three whose monthly gross income is between $1617.00 and $1818.00 would pay $21.25 per week for full-time child care).

The Stickney Township Child Development Center also has a full-pay program for families who do not qualify for the subsidy.  The current rates are $171.00 per week per child for children 30 months-35 months of age and $142.50 per week per child for children 3-5 years of age.

The day care center, located at 6721 W. 40th street in the Village of Stickney, is open Monday-Friday from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm and accepts only children who are toilet trained.  The day care center provides a full educational curriculum as well as morning/afternoon snacks and a hot catered lunch.
