Hot Fun In The Summertime!

Over the past year, Stickney Township’s Youth Commission hosted a number of educational and entertaining activities for children of all ages and this coming year we look forward to more—all under the supervision of our talented and dedicated staff.

The academic year showed an increase in enrollment for Pre-K-3 (a preschool program for 3 year-olds) and Kiddie Play Tyme (a program for 4 year-olds), while after school activities continued to please with games, crafts, cooking, storytelling and more.

Last summer kids and parents enjoyed Fun in the Sun, where an average of 25 children and their parents spent an afternoon each week at the Burbank Water Park soaking up warm weather and cool water. Age-appropriate activities for 3 to 11 year olds enabled children to explore their own individual creativity, and Family Swim Nights provided Township families a chance to hold their own “private party” with food and beverages provided by Supervisor Louis Viverito.

Plan Now for Fall Programs

The Stickney Township Youth Commission will again be offering Fall programs for preschoolers. Both Pre-K-4 and Pre-K-3 preschool programs will be offered.

The programs will begin in mid September 2008 and run through May 2009 and are geared towards education and entertainment for 3 and 4 year olds. Children 4 years of age by September 1, 2008, who are Stickney residents, are eligible for the Pre-K-4.

The program consists of 4 eight-week sessions meeting on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. A morning class from 9-11:00 a.m., or an afternoon class from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., are offered. The program fee is $60 for each eight-week session.

Pre-K-3 is a program for Stickney Township residents 3 years of age by September 1, 2008. It meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays with the choice of a morning class from 9-11:00 a.m., or an afternoon class from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. The fee is $40 per 8-week session.

Both programs aim to develop a child’s letter, shape and number recognition skills through group and individual activities and plenty of playtime fun. Programs are held in the South Clinic Auditorium.

Three proofs of residency, a child’s birth certificate and current immunization record are required at time of registration.

Daycare Program Offered at Child Development Center

The Stickney Township Child Development Center, located at 6721 W. 40th Street in the Village of Stickney, provides a full educational curriculum and is dedicated to providing quality childcare and programming for its preschoolers. The Center accepts potty-trained children 30 months through 5 years of age in both a subsidized and full-pay capacity.

The subsidized program is funded in part by the Illinois Department of Human Services and is geared toward providing employed low-income families with affordable child care. To qualify for the subsidy, parent(s) must be working full-time (25 hours per week minimum) and fall within the income and eligibility guidelines established by IDHS.

Tuition is assessed on a sliding scale based on yearly household gross income and family size.  For example, a family of four with a monthly gross income of $2,887.00 would pay $43.00 per week for full-time day care for one child. Families who do not qualify for the subsidy have the option of enrolling in the Center’s full-pay program, which is currently $131.00 per week per child 3-5 years of age and $160.05 per week per child 30-35 months of age.

The Day Care center is open M- F, 6 am to 6 pm. For further information contact Director, Linda Hinker, or Cheryl Plecki, Assistant Director at 708.788.8122.
